Textbook:  Numerical Mathematics and Computing (5th ed.) by Cheney and Kincaid.

Optional Software:  MATLAB. The latest version is 7 release 14.  You may purchase the student version from the book store (about 100 dollars).  However, all university computers have MATLAB (version 6.5 release 13) installed so you do not need to purchase it.

Please read the Homework Rules as I will be following these guidelines.  A copy of these is available on the course website.  Pay close attention to the limitation of collaboration. If these limitations are exceeded, it will be considered a violation of academic integrity punishable by the guidelines described at  http://www.pserie.psu.edu/faculty/academics/integrity/htm .

Labs: Occasionally we will meet in a computer lab in the Hammermill building. These days will be announced in class.

Grading: Your grade will based on your percentage of total possible homework credit (about 350-450 points).

A       93-100 %
A-     90-93 %
B+     87-90 %
B       83-87 %
B-     80-83 %
C+     77-80 %
C       70-77 %
D       60-70 %
F          0-60%

If your percentage falls exactly on one of the boundary values you will be given the better of the two grades. No rounding.
